Glencar Waterfall

This is, quite simply, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Ireland. Standing over 50 feet in height and located in the heart of the beautiful Glencar Lough, W.B. Yeats made this enchanting waterfall famous in his poem ‘The Stolen Child’.

Developed to preserve the rich energy heritage of the Arigna Valley, this thought-provoking museum provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like for the locals from its beginning in the 1700s, until its closure in 1990. Journey right up to the coalface to experience what it was like to work in some of the narrowest coal seams in the western world, before exploring the impact the mine had on the local community through a series of moving photo galleries and displays, during a fascinating tour that lasts 45 minutes.
